My initial pre conceptions for this section was, that I thought that CAD was the name of a particular programme and not a general term which can manifest in a variety of different programmes. What i thought to be the one and only CAD was actually Auto CAD!
We had the 2D design talk today which i had been looking forward to as this section was initially marked with an X so another x gone from my audit as i know what computer aided design is! I have had no previous experience with Computer aided design, although i had looked at students working on Auto CAD at sixth form and thought "God! thats looks hard!" but the resulting designs created using it were brilliant and wished that i could use it.
I was a little relieved that there was a basic programme for computer aided design -2D DESIGN- which was a good place to start and can gain some basic skills which can be transferred over to other/more complicated ones (as i did with FLOWOL and Picaxe programming editor) I think starting from the bottom and working up way of approaching new programs instead of jumping in at the deep end and scaring myself.
I was initially confused with the ABS numbers when following the tutorial given by the group, however i started the task again from scratch and it seemed to all fall into place and would like to create a model of my own to ensure i really understood the session.
All in all it seems like a fairly simple programme but like most things needs to be played around with and experiment with a few designs. considering i knew nothing about CAD and had never used it before by the end of the 30 minute talk had more idea about this subject, used a CAD program and produced a 3D camera design!
but still a long way to go, I am still unsure about how i know what the correct values are to create the vanishing points as we were given the values to type in? as i mentioned above i need to create my own design to fill in some gaps. Using this program will give me a good start in this section in which to progress.
